Riff Suggestions
Just A Game always needs new material for the experiments, and there is no way the mods know enough bad writing to find this material ourselves. That’s where we need your help! Suggest books for us to riff on, or submit your own, and your help will keep the game going strong! When you suggest a book, keep these things in mind:
- Pick a book that is actually bad, and not just mediocre. There are plenty of books out there that are merely mediocre, especially from new authors. More fun will be had out of a book that is truly bad.
- Please do not submit a fanfic to us unless it is your own. You do not have to be in the game to submit a fanfic, but don’t submit fics by another author. We do not want to deal with wank, grudges or vendettas regarding sporking fanfic.
- If you can, suggest a chapter that would work best to riff. There is no way we can do an entire book, so if you can find the most mockable part of the book for us, it is a great help.
- If you would like to submit your own fic, go right ahead! You do not have to be a player at the game to submit, but we want any fic submissions to be completely voluntary. Remember that all riffing is done in fun, and no one will hold a grudge against you for past bad writing. You have a bit more leeway on what can be submitted since it is your own fic.
- If you want, you have the option to actually write your own badfic just to have it riffed. You can submit it the same way as any other fic you’ve written. The only thing to keep in mind is don’t break the fourth wall...don’t have your fic be about MST3K, the SOL, or the characters as they are in the game.
- You are also more than welcome to submit bad spam, email chain letters, or other internet “junk mail”. Just make sure that it’s of a substantial enough length.
